Barbados — our most established Caribbean route

We've shipped multiple pets to Barbados with a consistent, proven process. Your pet needs an ISO microchip before its rabies vaccination, and a 35-day wait after that vaccination — longer than several of our other Caribbean routes, so build this into your timeline early. Dogs (not cats) also need a tick and tapeworm treatment within 7 days of travel. No titer test and no quarantine are required for compliant pets — Barbados eliminated mandatory quarantine back in 2015. We route through Miami on Caribbean Airlines Cargo. One real lesson from our own history: a flight went mechanically grounded on travel day once, and we coordinated directly with our local customs agent and ground handler to hold and re-route the pet safely — the kind of contingency handling that comes from having done this route before.

What doesn't vary: the basics

Across virtually every island in the region, you'll need an ISO-standard microchip implanted before your pet's rabies vaccination, a USDA-endorsed health certificate, and — for most islands — an import permit from that island's agriculture or veterinary authority. Miami is the dominant gateway for the Caribbean, and Caribbean Airlines Cargo is our most-used carrier.

Worth knowing

• Always confirm quotes include what you think they include. Import/customs quotes and full-service totals aren't the same thing — we itemize this clearly for every Caribbean booking.
• A name mismatch between a rabies certificate and a titer test can cause a delay. If your pet's ownership changed hands recently, flag this to us early.
• Rabies wait periods and health certificate validity windows differ by island — Barbados's 35-day rabies wait is one example of a detail that doesn't carry over from one island to the next.
